The requirements that you can derive out from the standards of Meaningful Use!

The EHR Incentive Program, commonly known as Meaningful Use (MU), is a term used to define minimum U.S. government standards for electronic health records (EHR), outlining how clinical patient data should be exchanged between healthcare providers, between providers and insurers and between providers and patients.

Meaningful use (MU) required using certified electronic health record (EHR) technology to:

  • Improve quality, safety, efficiency, and reduce health disparities.
  • Engage patients and family.
  • Improve care coordination.
  • Improve population and public health.
  • Maintain privacy and security of patient health information.

STAGES OF MEANINGFUL USE
REQUIREMENTS THAT CAN BE DERIVED OUT OF THE STAGES OF MU
he requirements that could be derived out of the stages can be classified into High-level buckets as depicted in the above picture.

  • MU Stage 1 could be described as the basic elements or the building blocks of EHR's
  • MU Stage 2 could be described as the incorporation of all the standards that help improve patient care and give the patient more control of his\her data
  • MU Stage 3 could be described as incorporation of all the buzzwords of today to improve outcomes.

Having this information is but the start of a long list of features that could be put into the buckets that are listed above. And the list is an ever expanding one........

In case you need help in starting out on such a product-backlog, do not hesitate to get in touch. I will be glad to help!

There could be a few conflicting thoughts that appear while doing a google search that mention that the MU is no longer active or applicable, however this article serves the purpose of creating a list of backlog items that could be the default requirements of a healthcare solution. Is MU Active or not is an article for the future. ;)
