A homestay in Coorg
A gang of cousins, a couple of brats and a whole lot of greenery of Coorg with Santa alongside.
Yes this was the purrfect way of celebrating Christmas, There we go driving all the way from ol n noisy Bangalore to the relative calm and quiet of Coorg, the route that we managed to take was Bangalore- Mysore- Hunsur - Kushalnagara - Madikeri.
7 of us in my Mahindra Scorpio, (Archie, Ashok, DJ Ash, Chaitra, Manaspurv, Janvi & me ) 6 in the accent (Gururaj, Karthik, Dhanvita, Shalini, Guru and pranav) 4 in a Innova (Praveen, Shweta, Pranith, Ashvitha) 4 in a Santro (KK, Chetana, Dhruv, Dhriti) were the gang of cousins who teamed up, Ashok the organizer- in -chief.
Lemme start off with this, the drive upto hunsur was easy going, we stopped midway in Maddur Tiffany's and had the now customary Maddur Vade with Kaapi, there I picked up the chit-bill which DJ Ash, Ashok and myself used for target practise, the target being an old broken down toilet window, then a fast drive later we stopped at Hotel Kalpatharu, adjacent to the Hunsur Police Station and here we learnt a new meaning to the word halfuu, yes half + Kannada letter uu. We were surprised when the waiter said that the speciality of this hotel was their set-dosas, we ordered a plate of it, then he says one plate has 4 set-dosas, (my o my what a surprise for us IT Bangaloreans) so he said I shall give u a halfuu each, and then we proceeded to eat the best set dosas that I have had for quite some time, we finished things off in this hotel with a cuppa chai served in glass :D
Dinner was at Veerabhoomi, the folk art village, where in we saw the enacting of various hilarious folk song by the artists at Veerabhoomi.
Passing thru Kushalnagar we reached Madikeri, went pass the KSRTC bus stand and called our caretaker/homeowner, and presto he arrives, and takes us to his ancestral house, it is bang in the centre of Madikeri and just half a kilometer away from Raja's Seat.
At Rs 200 per head per day the house was just perfect for those who want a more economical mode of homestay than that of a large estate house, this house had 4 rooms, with a hall and a portigo to boot. And the fine way of being looked after by the host.
Some of the places that we covered were Abbey falls, Bhagamandala, Tala Cauvery (the birth place of the river cauvery), Nisargadhama, Dubare, Raja's Seat, Kushalanagara, I must comment that almost half of Bangalore (i might be exxagarating here) was at coorg along with us.
Finally while the whole lot of us sat playing in our house on Christmas eve, Santa Claus decided to give us a visit exactly at 00:00 on the 25th of Dec 2007, and this is when we caught him passing on gifts to the victorious team.
Santa then being Santa did not stop at that, he also gave the losing team gifts too :P
Finally after a fruitful trip most of us headed back home with pleasant memories a last pit stop at Pizza Hut Mysore and back to the jingles and jangles of Bangalore...... where a new year party awaited us.
